What is medical cannabis oil?
Cannabis oil contains cannabis-derived compounds in a carrier oil. Oil extracts supplied as drops are one form of medical cannabis. In Israel, the clinician determines the treatment and dose, and the dispensing pharmacist explains how to use the prescribed product. See Israel’s Ministry of Health guidance.
THC oil, CBD oil and hemp seed oil
- THC can cause a high and impair alertness. The words “cannabis oil” alone do not tell you the THC concentration.
- CBD, or cannabidiol, does not cause the characteristic THC high. It can still cause side effects and interact with medicines. Read our CBD oil guide.
- Hemp seed oil is made from seeds and is different from cannabinoid extracts. Its name does not establish a benefit for pain.

Drops, concentration and dose: questions to ask
Bring the bottle or a clear photograph of its label, together with your prescription instructions. Ask the pharmacist to explain the product name, THC and CBD concentrations, prescribed amount and how the product should be taken. The same number of drops from two different products may not provide the same amount of THC or CBD.
- How do I identify the product I was prescribed?
- What should I do if the instructions are unclear?
- When should the response be reviewed, and whom should I contact?
- What follow-up is needed alongside my other medicines?
This guide does not provide a universal dosing chart. Discuss any treatment change with your treating clinician.
Information by symptom
For research limitations and appointment preparation, read cannabis oil for chronic and neuropathic pain. People receiving cancer treatment can also read about cannabis and cancer-related symptoms. Symptom relief and treatment of the underlying disease are different questions.
Side effects and a useful record
Dizziness, sleepiness and reduced alertness may affect everyday function and increase fall risk. Record the product name, the amount you actually took and when you took it, along with symptom changes and unwanted effects. Share the record with your care team rather than changing treatment yourself. See the Ministry of Health safety guidance.
Prepare for a guidance session
Write four short notes: the symptom that bothers me; treatments I have tried; my medicines and supplements; and my most important question. If treatment has started, add your instructions and what you have experienced. This gives the conversation a clear starting point.
Beitherapy-Canheal provides medical cannabis education and support with records and follow-up questions. Prescribing and dosing decisions remain with an authorized medical professional.
Frequently asked questions
Is there one best cannabis oil for everyone?
No general recommendation can establish individual suitability. Your medical history, other treatments and goals need to be considered with your clinician.
Are cannabis oil and CBD drops the same?
Not necessarily. Check the actual composition and concentrations. “Drops” describes how a product is dispensed; it does not identify the compounds it contains.
Can hemp seed oil replace prescribed cannabis oil?
These are different products. Do not replace a prescribed preparation with seed oil or change treatment without discussing it with your care team.
